Grass Fattened. We do not use antibiotics or hormones; our beef is antibiotic free and hormone free. Our cattle are raised on pasture.
Their free range diet is supplemented with our own organic hay.

Bridgehead Coffees are fairly traded, organic and shade-grown. Bridgehead creates a better deal for small-scale farmers. Small-scale farmers grow much of the world's coffee. But world coffee prices now at a 20 year low mean that farmers are receiving less than the cost of production for their beans. Many farmers have had to walk away from their farms. Other farmers have been forced to clear-cut their land in order to increase crop production. Such intensive production comes at a cost to the environment.

Bridgehead buys directly from small-scale coffee farmers organized in co-operatives and guarantees them a fair price, well above the world market price. Farmers avoid dealing with "coyotes" or local intermediary traders who control the economic activities of local villages and exploit farmers. Higher coffee incomes mean local communities can build schools, health centres and roads. Farmers are also able to grow alternative cash and food crops in addition to coffee.

PLANTS

Custom Orders for SPRING 2008 can be placed now.

Let us grow your bedding and vegetable plants for this spring. These plants are grown from untreated Heritage seeds and are carefully nurtured in living organically prepared soil. Our tender loving care gives the plants a solid foundation and a superior root system.

We grow plants for gardeners and farmers by special order. This can be done in various ways. For example, the plants may be ordered in our plug trays or in a variety of pot sizes.

When selecting plants at the farm you can choose from a wide variety of Heritage and non-hybrid, open pollinated vegetables, herbs and flowers.

We use and sell a certified Organic Fish Emulsion. We recommend adding this to the water given to the plants as they are transplanted.

Avoid herbicides in your mulch, use our organic Straw Bales (small).

PORK

We do not use antibiotics with our pigs, we use herbs for deworming. The pigs are fed our own organic mixed grains balanced with our own organic soybeans.

POULTRY

We do not use antibiotics.

Our stewing chickens are excellent for soups and stews. Ranged outdoors in non-moveable pens, they have access to fresh air and sunlight. Their diet consists of our own organic mixed grains balanced with our own organic soybeans.

Our laying hens are raised outdoors. They are fed organic grain/soya bean mix, plus organic sunflower seeds to enhance the qualtiy.

The ducks are fenced on pasture. They are fed our own organic mixed grains balanced with our own organic soybeans.

SPECIALTY ITEMS

APPLE BUTTER

Our organic Apple Butter comes from Meeting Place Organic Farm, Lucknow, Ontario, Canada. It is made from apples certified organic by the Organic Crop Improvement Association.

Meeting Place Organic Farm is a small orchard and farm owned by Tony and Fran McQuail. They farm organically with Belgian horses and have a mixed livestock operation designed to nourish the soil and produce nutritious food in an ecologically sustainable manner.

Ingredients: Apple juice and apple sauce from organically grown apples, baking soda, cinnamon.
